… “der macht was er will”. This is a German saying, meaning that the weather in April is pretty much unpredictable.
The last 2 weeks showed me, that this isn’t much different in Minnesota. Two weeks ago, at the end of March all the snow from the last five month melted for the first time completely. For the first time it was possible to work a little in the yard and clean up a little from the last few month.
Only 2 days later the weather turned again and it got cold - without snow though. It was followed by a few days of sun. Last Thursday the weather changed so abruptly, that I thought Adam was kidding, when he told me, that it was raining outside. 15 minutes earlier I came back from the field trip, and it was sunny. One hour later our Coach decided that it was to rainy to do the workout outside and we continued in the weight room. After the workout you could barely get outside the school, because the wind was pushing against the doors. Whenever somebody opened it, the sealing got pushed out of the grids. Also, it started snowing somewhere in this time.
Friday morning - I was hitting to school for the track practice the roads were covered with an inch of heavy snow.
At the moment it is still snowing, but at least it is warm enough that it melts immediately.
As I wrote in the last post, there was a little debate going on about replacing the ketchup pumps with little ketchup packs. It turned out, that the whole thing was a big misunderstanding.
Monday - 2 weeks ago: The ketchup packs showed up for the first time.
Monday - C Lunch: The Principals gave up after […]
“This is ridiculous” was probably the most heard phrase in my school in the last few days. Students making plans to get rid of ketchup packs at lunch everywhere and in the classes and on the lunch tables only one subject: The replacement of our ketchup bottles with small ketchup packs.
Last week the school introduced […]
Last year, from December 27th to December 28th our ski team had a trip to Giants Ridge in Bibawik.
Not everybody could come, since it was during our winterbreak and so approximately 30 of us met on thursday at 5.30 in the morning at school. Our bus left at about 6.00 with a trailer full of […]
Things have been a bit hectic lately, with my father being in the hospital emergency room twice last week. He’s recovering at home, and the holiday season marches on.
On Saturday and Sunday both, Laurin spent most of the day doing some of his community service hours. We’ve had to get him going a bit more […]
Today I got to know the cold temperatures of Minnesota for the first time (”It is NOT cold, Laurin, it will get way colder” was the most heard comment, when I talked with somebody about that”). When I sat down in the car this morning, it was cold, but I could sit, could hide my […]
After having built an emergency hat out of a scarf I had my first practice. I learned how to skate on roller skies, what is really different from running on Rollerblades. You have to watch your feet more intensive and the consequences are more fatal, if you don’t. At least, that was my first impression. […]
Today I came into my classroom for Precalc and sat down, as usually. After a few minutes a friend came in, and detected a sheet of paper on his desk - adressed to me. It was a note, that I have to take the BST Reading Test on December 4th, the BST Math Skill Test […]
Talking in school was only about one thing, the last two weeks: the finals, on Wednesday and Thursday. A Final is a big test in every class for testing everything we did in the last trimester. Of course I didn’t know about these in the beginning, and were kind of surprised about all that. Butt […]
Last night, the cooking started and it continues today in preparation for the “official” meal at 5:00.
Until then, we’ve got a table full of appetizers to snack on:
Rum-glazed, spiced pecans
Cheese and crackers
Grapes and apples
Hawaiian sweet bread with dill dip
Chips and ranch dip
Pickles (sweet and dill)
Sangria (adults only)
When we finally sit down for dinner, we’ll be […]
